Choosing a Domain

You've made it this far, now it's time to choose a virtual host for use on IRC. Choosing the right virtual host name can be both fun and creative! We have two options, first, you can register a your own name for use on IRC. This is good for a custom feel when you are online.



Quick Tips


1. Don't include a specific location, unless you serve only that location. Even if you do ship nationwide, you may never get the chance to let the consumer know that; consumers from other areas are not likely to click through from search engines if your domain includes a location.


2. Cut to the chase, keep it simple. The shorter the better. It's easier to remember.

3. Buy the variations. If you go buy Finditall.com, you should also register Finditall.net and other variations to protect your brand.


4. Don't pay the big bucks. Some domains have sold for millions - don't do it. Those dollars are more effectively spent building up a brand and advertising your products and/or services.

Simple. Before you launch the IRC client on your shell, simply type: sethost your.vhost.here



Binding an Eggdrop

Within the eggdrop.conf file, uncomment the lines for set my-ip and change the IP address to the cooresponding IP address of the virtual host you would like your eggdrop to use on IRC.



Binding a BNC

Simply add the hostname to the allowed virtual hosts in your BNC configuration and issue the proper command before connecting the BNC to the IRC server to bind to the virtual host you wish to use.
